Shaykh Muhammad ibn al-Habib says in his Qasidah of commentary on his Wird, “The Majestic Truth has promised the dhakir who recites it that he will have what he needs, not limited to any state,” and “In our time its invocation takes precedence over Ahzab of Qur’an or Wadhifahs.”
What he is talking about is the repetition of Allah’s words, “Hasbunallahu wa ni’ma ‘l-Wakeel,” (Allah is enough for us and the best Guardian). He further elucidates on it merits for sayyidina Ibrahim in protecting him from the fire that he was thrown into and that our Messenger was given everything through it. My mercy extends to all things
but I will prescribe it for those who have taqwa
and pay the Zakah,
and those who believe in Our Signs:
When Allah, subhanahu wa ta’ala, mentions that His mercy extends to everything, it indicates that nothing exists except by the Mercy of Allah. This is an undifferentiated mercy that is necessary for anything to exist and survive. Existence itself is a mercy.
If we remember that Allah told us that when He desired to create the universe He took a portion of His light and said to it, “Be Muhammad”, and also that He sent him, sallallahu alayhi wa sallim, only as a mercy to all the worlds, we can see that mercy is the very fabric of our existence and Allah’s will.
The first thing a child does as it emerges from the womb, before it cries is breathe. This first sustaining breath comes with the gift of life and is quickly followed by others until the last one heralds our entry into the next world. The following is a downloadable mp3 talk given before Ramadan in 2009 during a visit to Durban, South Africa. It was meant to give an overview of the dhikr that can be done on a daily basis by the fuqara of Shaykh Dr. Abdalqadir as-Sufi. Anyone who has given bay’a to an amir under the Shaykh has the authority to do these dhikrs. All is in the realm of the ‘Nawafil’ or voluntary and is aimed at the individual faqir or faqirah and gatherings of the fuqara.
